Unbeaten Two-Year-Old Goes For Eight

Paymenowpaymelater has yet to let a horse go past her in seven career starts and that streak will continue Thursday if she has any say in it.

The two-year-old trotting daughter of Northern Bailey has post 7 in her $8,000 Lady Slipper trot division (Race 2) Thursday night at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at The Charlottetown Driving Park. Marc Campbell will drive the filly in the two-year-old trot division for owner Wade Peconi of Stanchel and trainer Earl Watts. Her main competition will come in the form of post 1 starter BJ Matador (Bert Honkoop) and Balanced Bailey (Kenny Arsenault) from post 5.

The other Lady Slipper two-year-old trot division in race 6 has last week’s runner-up to Paymenowpaymelater starting from post 4. Wait For Me, fresh off a half-length second place finish in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes to the undefeated filly, has trainer Mark McKinnon in the bike for New Haven owners Mitchell and David Tierney. Wait For Me has yet to see the winner’s circle in her early career but that could all change Thursday night. Looking to get in her way is Summerside Raceway's two-year-old trotting track record holder Suicide Shift, who is saddled with post 8 for trainer-driver Steven Shepherd, while Windemere Ty is riding a two-race win streak from post 2 for driver Jack Panting.

The target is locked firmly on Seanchai as the one to beat in his $8,200 Lady Slipper three-year-old trot division in race 4 for driver Jason Hughes and owner Buntainwood Farm of Brackley Beach. The three-year-old son of Northern Bailey devastated the field in his last outing with a 2:02 mile, with his closest rival 11 lengths in arrears in one of the fastest three-year-old trot miles of the 2014 Maritime racing season. Seanchai will leave from post 5 in an eight-horse-field with real threats from Dusty Lane Galaxy (Gary Chappell), Phantom Beau (Arsenault) and Dunmore Chance (Panting).

The other three-year-old trot division lines up in race 8 with Southfield Shadow leaving from post 3 for trainer Thane Mann, driver Terry Gallant and owner Southfield Farm Inc. of Summerside. The P Js Nabby filly is fresh off a win last week in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes and will face off with seven rivals including BJ Comanche (Clare MacDonald) and Playdale (Daniel MacDonald).

The 13-dash card also includes a $2,000 feature pace in race 12 with I D K favored from the rail for driver Vincent Poulton over Capitalism (Hughes) and Judge Jon (Mike Stevenson).
