Golden Boy, Silk Lace Stakes Wrap Up
Manitoba-sired sophomore pacers Elska Min and filly Dirt Road Anthem were victorious in their respective Golden Boy and Silk Lace stakes finals on Saturday afternoon at Miami Fair.
Favourite Elska Min overcame a post seven start by rallying wide from the backfield at the third quarter mark en route to a 2:04.1 triumph in the $11,787 final of the Golden Boy for trainer/driver Richard Remillard. Sayitlikeyoumeanit came on for second while Home Matters and Heartland Slushie could not be separated in a dead-heat for third.
Unraced at two, the Armbro Baylor-Workin Lady gelding has earned four wins and four seconds in nine starts this year while banking $14,022 in purses. He is owned by Remillard and Valerie Emerson of Gladstone, M.B.
With the inside post advantage, Dirt Road Anthem cruised gate-to-wire in the $11,303 Silk Lace final to win in 2:01.4 by two and a half lengths over Mexican Maid. Shenika was third.
Don Howlett drove the Armbro Baylor-Pontchatula filly, who now has six wins, two second-place finishes and $15,124 in earnings in 11 starts during her debut season for Winnipeg, M.B. owners Trevor and Michael Williams.
Dirt Road Anthem's stakes win was part of a training grand slam for Richard Rey. His trainees also won the last three races on the card, including the $1,850 Fillies & Mares Open Pace in which Manitoba newcomer Emmasphere lowered the aged mare track record by two-fifths of a second with a 1:58.2 triumph. Howlett drove the speedster for owner Trevor Williams.
Marc Fillion had a training/driving triple on the 10-race card.
