'Terry' Triumphs In Yonkers Open
Take It Back Terry, driven by George Brennan, was first home from second-up Saturday night, winning Yonkers Raceway's $44,000 Open Pace.
Reserved early from post position No. 5, Take It Back Terry saw tepid 2-1 choice Rampage Jackson (Jason Bartlett) stuff Dream Out Loud N (Eric Goodell) and Sapphire City (Dan Dube) in behind. A spiffy :26.4 opening quarter-mile was aided by the leader speeding up when Sapphire City thought about moving from third before relenting.
A cheapy :29.1 second quarter (:56-second half) figured to help "Jackson's" cause as Casimir Jitterbug (Brian Sears) came to challenge. Take It Back Terry was content to hitch along, but Rampage Jackson continued to front the fray in and out of a 1:24.3 three-quarters.
However, he gave way grudgingly in and out of the final turn, as Casimir Jitterbug was about to win the battle, but lose the war. Take It Back Terry picked that one off by a half-length in 1:53. Rampage Jackson finished third -- beaten a length -- with Big N Bad (Jordan Stratton) and Dream Out Loud N completing the cashers.
For fifth choice "Terry," a five-year-old Western Terror gelding co-owned by trainer Ron Burke (as Burke Racing), Weaver Bruscemi, Larry Karr and Phil Collura, he returned $17.60 for his seventh win in 20 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $82, with the triple returning $237.50.
