Strong Blooded Horse Summer Sale
Optimism abounded at the Blooded Horse Summer Sale, which took place on August 25 and 26. The edition of the sale proved to be the best in its 58-year history.
There were 212 yearlings featured in the Monday session, including 121 Ohio-breds, 46 Indiana-breds, 16 Pennsylvania-breds, 12-Ontario-breds, and four New York-breds.
Spring Haven Farm sold two of the top three yearlings, led by a beautiful Ohio-bred daughter of Fly Fly Buckeye out of an Artsplace mare that went to Dean Davis for $20,000. They also consigned the striking black Major In Art colt Major Lee Fast, who was purchased by Glenn Raia for $11,000. Bidding was spirited for the Ohio-bred filly Goldrush Katie, with Parent Stables getting the nod at $12,000. The daughter of Trainforthefuture out of a half-sister to Yankee Glide was consigned by Pfeiffer Farms LLC.
After the yearling session, it was all about racehorses! Topping the sale at $54,000 was Hezatrain, an ultra-consistent five-year-old trotting gelding that is coming off of an eight-length, 1.54.4f win at Scioto Downs. Consigned by Wengerd Racing, the son of Trainforthefuture was purchased by Michael Casalino of New Jersey. Cmon Mr Brock, who had just demolished a field at Northfield Park by 13 lengths, was purchased by Bob Lasky (agent) for $27,000.
Michigan buyers were hot after good horses to race beyond their border. Shirley Halas signed the ticket for the competitive Meadowlands trotter JCs Jake for $23,000, Guy Cole picked up the trotting winner of $228,629 Over And Out for $21,000, and Michael Sova got the nod on the fast American Ideal daughter, Lady Ideal, for $20,000.
The Blooded Horse Fall Sale is scheduled for November 17-20 and will feature a black-type yearling session on the first day. Visit bloodedhorse.com for entry deadlines.
