iBet On Success
Saturday night Mohawk Racetrack played host to the ‘iBet’ promotion, coordinated by Standardbred Canada’s Youth Council to offer a VIP experience to racing fans 18-25 years of age.
Fans were treated to a VIP package upon arrival, as well as behind the scenes tours, starting gate rides and giveaways throughout the impressive card.
“We reached our goal of 100 people 18-25 by the fourth race, it was a phenomenal response to the promotion,” said Youth Council member Hannah Beckett.
“A strong percentage of participants had never been to the track before. ‘iBet’ took their trackside experience to a new level; I think it had an incredibly positive impact on their night and will encourage them to return.”
Fans received a free program, tip sheet, $2 betting voucher, I Love Canadian Harness Racing merchandise as well as a pass giving them exclusive access to the Corona Patio on the tarmac. Draws for prize packs took place after every race until the tenth on the card.
“Harness racing is worth sharing and introducing to new people. ‘iBet’ was a step in that direction. If even one newcomer returns for another night of racing, we’ve achieved something. Many made their first wagers and expressed interest in learning more about handicapping in preparation for their next trip to the races.”
Prior to the card kicking off, several drivers headed to the front doors to welcome guests as they arrived. The Youth Council would like to extend its thanks to Jody Jamieson, Anthony MacDonald, James MacDonald, Phil Hudon and Jonathan Drury for their help.
“We had newcomers at the table and Jody went through their program with them, picking out some winners. I’m not sure how successful he was, but he put a face to the name in the program and put them at ease.”
The 13-race card featured eliminations for the Canadian Pacing Derby, Shes a Great Lady stakes and the Metro Pace. The finals will be contested Saturday, a night also featuring the Simcoe Stakes. To catch the recap and fields, click here.
