I Like My Boss Is Rolling

I Like My Boss is the current Rocky Marciano of harness racing. Like Marciano, the three-year-old who has been a heavyweight on the Delaware circuit since his career’s inception, has never lost.

I Like My Boss, a trotting gelding by Don Boss Vita, is unbeaten in 12 career starts. He will put that impressive record on the line Wednesday at Harrington Raceway from Post 3.

Owned by his trainer, Bob Shahan, along with partners Jimmy Parsons Jr. and Ashley Parsons, all of Harrington, I Like My Boss has wowed his local following with hard-fought wins that have often come from off the pace, and at times in dramatic fashion. His most recent close call came in a Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) eligible event on June 10 in which he needed every inch of the stretch to get by a game rival, Call Me Hal.

His regular driver, Jon Roberts, has been aboard ‘The Boss’ in each of his wins.

“He’s a great horse to drive,” Roberts said following his win in the $100,000 DSBF final on July 24. “You can do whatever you want with him. Bobby (Shahan) has done a great job.”

Courtesy of his decisive triumph on July 24, I Like My Boss caught the attention of many dignitaries in Delaware, as the win came during the annual Governor’s Day program. The Governor’s Day card is attended by many of the state’s legislators, including Governor Jack Markell. The card is the richest racing program of the year for Delaware horsepeople.

I Like My Boss will look to keep his unblemished record intact in Wednesday’s second race at Harrington. He will get his first dose of action versus older rivals, as he will be one of just two 3-year-olds in a field full of four and five-year-olds.
