Nine Is Fine In Stallion Series
An army of two-year-old trotting fillies made the trip to Pocono Downs to wage war in Tuesday’s nine divisions of the Pennsylvania Stallion Series.
Seduce A Stranger captured the first $20,000 division in 1:59.3 in gate-to-wire fashion for driver Ron Pierce. The Chris Beaver trainee fired through fractions of :28.3, 1:00.1 and 1:29.3 before using a :30-second closing panel to win by a half-length margin over Sand C Four. Third prize was earned by Twinklingofaneye.
It was the third win of the season in five tries for the daughter of Muscle Massive-Khifra Hanover. Beaver shares ownership on the $20,000 purchase from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale with Synerco Ventures Inc, Steven Zeehandelar and Leo Fleming. The youngster has banked $20,800 to date.
Gematria blew away the foes she faced in the second division. Tom Jackson hustled her to the front and she successfully sliced out panels of :29, :59.4 and 1:29.2 before uncorking a :29.1 final frame en route to the win by 7-3/4 lengths over Trustworthy Gal in 1:58.3. Devoted rounded out the top three finishers.
Fred Grant trains the daughter of Explosive Matter-Ginevre for owner/breeder Russell Williams of Hanover, Pennsylvania. The win improved her rookie record to 2-1-1 from four trips to the track and the lion’s share of the purse bumped her bankroll to $22,150.
Fly Angel Fly was a front-stepping winner in 2:01 for trainer/driver Jimmy Takter, who watched the second-time starter break her maiden in 2:01. She chopped out fractions of :29.1, 1:01.3 and 1:30.4 before cruising home to win by 2-3/4 lengths over Global Ice. Taking home the show dough was Shewontkissandtell.
The daughter of Cantab Hall-Dream Angel, who was a $160,000 purchase from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale, is owned by Al Libfeld, Marvin Katz and Sam Goldband.
Kimco Hall notched the first win of her career thanks to a front-stepping score with driver David Miller in tow. The filly led through fractions of :28.3, 1:01.1 and 1:31.1 before using a :30-second kicker to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Christine Sixteen in 2:01.1. Scarletts Legacy was third.
Purchased for $20,000 from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale, the daughter of Andover Hall-Kimco Lady has banked $10,650 for Bay Pond Racing Stable of Paoli, Pennsylvania. She hangs her harness bag in the barn of trainer Richard ‘Nifty’ Norman.
Trainer/driver Jimmy Takter returned to victory lane following his triumph with Flirting Filly in 1:59. The daughter of Broadway Hall-Flirtin My Way rallied to the win by 1-1/4 lengths over Wouldnt Itbesweet, with third prize earned by Aarena Hanover.
Sent off at odds of 5-1, the $170,000 purchase from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale improved her rookie record to 1-1-0 from five tries. Brittany Farms, the nursery which bred the filly, shares ownership on the career winner of $20,346 with Marvin Katz and Al Libfeld.
Lady Clarabella lost her first lifetime start, but she’s put together back-to-back wins since then for trainer Randy Beeckman. She was a two-length winner in come-from-behind fashion in her Tuesday evening division. David Miller mapped out the winning trip for the rookie, who stopped the clock in 1:57.3 en route to defeating Lilu Hanover and Isabella Carina.
Breeder Paul Kinnear of Florida co-owns the daughter of Lear Jetta-Jet By with Dreamland Farms of New Jersey. The filly has stashed away more than $16,000 to date.
Im Yelling Timber won for the first time in six tries thanks to her 1:59.3 decision for trainer Brandon Simpson. Tyler Buter tripped out the 14-1 longshot and she didn’t let the trip go to waste. She fired home in :29.3 to score by three lengths over Barbara Brooks, with Fog Warning taking home third prize.
Purchased for $19,000 at last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale, the daughter of Explosive Matter-Velma K improved this year’s record to 1-1-0 with the win. James Bafia and Eugene White of Illinois share ownership on the career winner of $11,500.
Alpha Alpha was winless in her first six starts, but the seventh kick at the can produced a win. The daughter of Encore Encore-Pegasus On Ice marched to the top and couldn’t be caught en route to posting a 2:00.1 triumph for driver Tim Tetrick. The even-money favourite defeated Malala and She Glides.
Trainer Rich Gillock, who bred the career winner of $25,100, shares ownership on the freshman with Barbara and James Richardson of Pennsylvania.
Product Placement pulled off an upset to the tune of 11-1 in the final division. Driver Tom Jackson and trainer Fred Grant teamed up yet again to win with the daughter of Andover Hall-Con Dolcezza in 1:58.4. She drew clear to win by 2-1/4 lengths over Shafina Hanover, with third prize earned by Some Kinda Special.
It was also a stakes double for owner/breeder Russell Williams of Hanover, Pennsylvania, who watched the trotting lass improved her rookie record to 2-0-1 from four starts with the win. She’s stashed away more than $18,000 to date.
