Favourites Dominate Gold Divisions
Fifteen of the province’s flashiest fillies trekked to Georgian Downs for a set of OSS Gold Series divisions, and odds-on favourites Lady Shadow and My Secret Belle came away victorious in their respect tilts.
Lady Shadow, who was sent off at odds of 2-5, put smiles on the faces of her many backers thanks to her front-stepping triumph in the opening division. Doug McNair got away second with the Gregg McNair pupil, but had her up and driving at the quarter pole. She secured the lead and set middle splits of :55.1 and 1:23.1 before firing home in :28.3 to win by two lengths in 1:51.4. Sectionline Aqua, who enjoyed a pocket trip most of the mile, was second with Justabit Mean rallying to finish third.
It was the fourth win of the season for Lady Shadow, who is owned by Lindsey and Connie Rankin of Lexington, Michigan. The daughter of Shadow Play-Lady Camella lifted her lifetime earnings to $402,405 with the win.
My Secret Belle, who was sent off at odds of 3-5, watched Alibi Seelster thrown down wicked fractions of :26.4, :55.1 and 1:23.4 before she rolled into a break at the head of the lane and scattered the field. Trainer/driver Joe Hudon laid off the speed all the way, but he tipped his charge wide coming off the final turn and drew clear to win by four lengths over Shadows Wonder in 1:53.1. Third prize went to Jakardez.
Hudon bred and owns the daughter of Mach Three-Kindly Jenna, who improved this year’s record to 7-4-3 from 20 trips to the track. Her bankroll ballooned to $216,409 with the win.
