Posts Drawn For Gold Cup & Saucer
The post position draw for Saturday’s 55th edition of the Sobey’s Gold Cup & Saucer was completed earlier this evening at the Charlottetown Driving Park, and the advantage clearly goes to Aracache Hanover on paper.
Aracache Hanover, the winner of Trial 1 on Saturday, August 9, has drawn Post 2 for trainer Ron Burke, while the Trial 2 winner from Monday, August 11, Mickey Hanover, will start from Post 8 for trainer Rene Allard.
Here’s how the field will line up behind the starting gate:
$75,000 Sobey’s Gold Cup & Saucer
1. Wazzup Wazzup
2. Aracache Hanover
3. Bigtown Hero
4. Scott Rocks
5. Island Jet
6. Take It Back Terry
7. Shock It To Em
8. Mickey Hanover
This is a week long event
This is a week long event that trainers and drivers gush about and from what I hear, rightly so. Food and fun, pagentry and a packed house. So why did they only have 5 entries on the last day to submit? They called around to get more and finally got 12. Last year there were twice as many.
A couple of trainers that handle my horses asked me to send Champagne Phil to the Gold Cup and Saucer. He's my best horse to be sure clocked in 149.3 and he's good on a half mile track. Looking at the fields he is competitive with 8 of the 12 horses. The problem for me is the 4 horses I couldnt touch. I am guessing that's why they had to phone around on the last day. Note that there aren't any Maritime Horses entered. If I thought I had a chance I would spend the $5000 in expenses to send my horse down.
I will make a bold prediction and say the same trainer will win this year that won last year (finished 1-2). He is the best.
Just thinking out loud (pun)I would love to see the Gold Cup and Saucer have different divisions so more horses, trainers and drivers could compete in this event. I'm glad that most of the drivers are maritimers.

I would just like to point
I would just like to point out that Charlottetown goes 8 on the gate...so Mickey Hanover leaves from the far outside and not the 2nd tier.... Good Luck to all!!!!!
