Repeat Winners In Manitoba Stakes
Killarney played host to the Manitoba-sired three-year-old pacers competing in the second leg of the Golden Boy and Silk Lace Stakes on Saturday.
Fillies Dirt Road Anthem and Mexican Maid and gelding Uncle Bob were repeat winners in their respective stakes while Home Matter took the other colt division.
In the first $3,553 Silk Lace split, Dirt Road Anthem posted another romping victory in a career-best 2:03.1 clocking, with her win margin nine lengths this time out. Rounding out the order were Alcars Blue Bird, Jeannes Faith and Wild N Shiny. Don Howlett drove the Armbro Baylor-Pontchatula filly, a winner in half of her six career starts, for trainer Richard Rey and owners Trevor and Michael Williams of Winnipeg, M.B.
Mexican Maid was also a gate-to-wire winner in her Silk Lace division, stopping the clock in a career-best 2:05.1. The Armbro Baylor-Tequila Lullaby filly prevailed by two and a half lengths over Shenika while Kwikkwik Lika Shaw, Heartland Chai and Tumbling Tears completed the field. Bred by the husband and wife, driver and trainer team of Darryl and Sherri Mason, Mexican Maid is now three-for-four on the year. Donald Anness of Emo, Ont. is the winning owner.
Uncle Bob held on by a neck to win his $3,576 Golden Boy division in 2:07.4 over Only Hope and Whats Divine, who finished second in a dead-heat. Sayitlikeyoumeanit finished nearly three lengths back in fourth. Driver Ron and trainer Jodi Cullen share ownership of the homebred Ci Ci Bob-Treasure Kash gelding with Annabelle Pirie and Ken Hanson of Strathclair, M.B. The victory was his third in six outings this year.
Home Matter finished third in the first leg of the Golden Boy to Uncle Bob, but went wire-to-wire in round two for trainer, driver and breeder Roland Rey. The The Another Matter-Home On The Range colt won in 2:04.2 by a length an a quarter over opening leg winner Elska Min. Chill Fighter, Heartland Slushie and Keep Yr Cool completed the field. Home Matter now has two wins in five career starts for owner Justin Rey of St. Claude, M.B.
