PEI Trotting Series Continues
The PEI Trotting Series, sponsored by PEIHRIA, continued on Friday night at Charlottetown Driving Park with Mopey Corey and Zip The Lip winning a pair of $1,850 second leg divisions.
Mopey Corey, in rein to his namesake Corey MacPherson, turned back round one winner Pleasure Girls and trotted on to a three and a half length victory in 1:59.1 over pacing mare Beer Maggs and Saulsbrook Balance. Thomas Riley trains the eight-year-old gelding for Amanda Riley of Roseneath, Ont. Mopey Corey was a runner-up in his Island debut in the opening leg of the series on July 30 at Summerside. He earned his eighth win in 22 starts this year.
Driven by Brian MacPhee, six-year-old gelding Zip The Lip, a regular in the Red Shores Open class, won the second division in 2:01 by two and a quarter lengths over the pocket-pulling veteran, Abundaspin, with Majian Dillon finishing third. Trainer Donald Sweet shares ownership of the winner with Orville Willis of O'Leary, P.E.I. The victory was Zip The Lip's third in 13 starts and followed up a fourth-place finish in his first leg division, which was won by this week's breaker Frill Seeker.
