3R Takes One-Week Break
Due to the Grand Prix auto race that goes throughout the town of Trois-Rivieres and is at the Hippodrome 3R next week, there will be no live harness racing at the track this coming Sunday and the following Tuesday.
Tonight’s ninth race feature trot saw track record holder Whitewater Rapids show why he has career earnings of more than $245,000. He was able to grind it out to get the lead by the half-mile marker, and then hold the field at bay to win by two open lengths in 1:58.3.
Owned, trained and driven to victory by Guy Gagnon, the six-year-old stallion by Credit Winner had little trouble racing first-over from the start against pacesetter Next To Go (Denis St. Pierre) to the opening quarter mile in :28.3 and then to the half mile in :59.1 before taking over before the three-quarters in 1:29 and then breezing home for the victory.
Next To Go finished second and Parkhill Jugernaut (Melanie Plourde) in third.
It was the 12th career win for Whitewater Rapids, who paid a generous $3.70 to win as the betting favorite. Back on June 10, he set the track record for older stallions with a 1:57.1 triumph.
