Say It Again Sam Remains Undefeated
Say It Again Sam kept his perfect sophomore record in tact as he earned his eighth straight victory on Sunday afternoon at Truro Raceway.
Competing in the Harris Home Hardware Series eliminations, Say It Again Sam and trainer/driver Jason Hughes persevered in a three-wide battle for the early lead and paced home to win by two lengths in 1:56.4. Fedora (Darren Crowe) was second and Arizona Bucks (Mark Whidden) finished back in third with equipment issues.
After going winless in four Ontario starts as a two-year-old, the Well Said gelding has done nothing but win for his new East Coast connections. Owned by Foxyhall Racing of Wallace, N.S., Say It Again Sam began his sophomore streak climbing the class ladder in Charlottetown, P.E.I. before making his Truro debut this afternoon.
Bevel Hanover won the other $1,500 elimination of the Harris Home Hardware Series, drawing off by seven lengths in the stretch with trainer/driver Danny Romo aboard for the Ratchford Stable NS of North Sydney, N.S. The Cams Card Shark gelding stopped the clock in a career-best 1:57.2 with Bobs Ideal (Darren Crowe) and Lifeinthecountry (Bernard McCallum) rounding out the top three finishers.
The series is for four-year-old pacers and younger that are non-winners of $10,000 lifetime as of July 1. The $5,500 (est.) final will be raced on Saturday, July 26.
Emerging Market (Paul Langille) and Lady Mccardle (David Floyd Carey) were victorious in their 1-1/4 mile, second leg divisions of the Budweiser Series for $2,500 claimers. Emerging Market prevailed by three-quarters of a length in 2:33.2 over Just Lovey (Dale Spence) in the first $1,200 division while Lady Mccardle nosed out opening leg winner Coral Sea in 2:32.3.
Saulsbrook Quick (Ryan Ellis) was the quickest to the wire in this week's $1,275 top class, winning in a season's best 1:57.2 for local trainer and co-owner Joseph Green.
