Putnams Storm Wins Truro Feature
Five-year-old Putnams Storm established a new lifetime mark of 1:55.1 while defeating the top pacers at Truro Raceway on Sunday afternoon.
With four-time Sunday winner Paul Langille in the sulky, the grey gelding took over command into the final turn and drew off to win the $1,275 feature by five and a half lengths over Oakmont and Push Back. Putnams Storm now boasts back-to-back wins at Truro for trainer Cyril MacDonald and owner Wesley Patriquin of Wentworth, N.S.
Langille and MacDonald also teamed up to win the following race and complete a sweep of the late Daily Double with Putnams New Year.
The Budweiser Series for $2,500 claimers kicked off on Sunday with Godivabeachdiamond (Ernest Laffin) and Coral Sea (Bernard McCallum) winning their respective $1,200 first leg divisions contested over 1-1/4 miles. Coral Sea's 2:32.1 winning time was a track record for the extended distance.
