NYSS Freshman Equals Saratoga Record
New York's top two-year-old pacing colts and geldings were in town on Saturday for 'Back to the Track' night at Saratoga Casino and Raceway.
The fifth annual Back to the Track night brought fans out in full force to enjoy a race card that featured NY Sire Stakes action throughout the night.
As is usually the case when he comes to town, driver Jim Morrill Jr. dominated the action. The 49-year-old reinsman piled up six wins on the card, including one that matched the track record for two-year-old pacers.
Freedomformysoul (If I Can Dream) scored an impressive victory in 1:53.3 on Saturday to match the mark set by Heston Blue Chip on the Night of Champions in 2011.
Freedomformysoul finished second in his lifetime debut last week at The Meadowlands pacing in 1:52.4 and broke his maiden at the 'Spa' in his first try in the New York Sire Stakes.
Morrill, who has only driven at Saratoga a couple of times since racing here full time in March, still is among the top 10 in the driver standings as he has won at a percentage of over 60 when he has come to town.
Other winners in the $32,700-plus Sire Stakes races were K Rock (sired by Rock N Roll Heaven), Rockntouch (Rock N Roll Heaven), Oneisalonelynumber (Bettors Delight) and Aimo Hanover (Artiscape).
