Summerside Hosts MLT Series
Red Shores Summerside hosted three divisions of the Maple Leaf Trot Wednesday night, with Saulsbrook Pippa, Phantom Beau and Oceanview Rose winning their respective assignments.
Saulsbrook Pippa delivered as the post time favourite in the opening division winning in 2:03.1 for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer John Pineau who co-owns with Myron Ford of Harrington. Dusty Lane Galaxy was second while Lace finished third.
Pineau notched a training double when Phantom Beau claimed the second Maple Leaf Trot for Kenny Arsenault. The trotter stopped the timer in 2:07. Paul Breau of Moncton is the owner. Ice Pop was second with A C Image third.
Oceanview Rose earned her big paycheque scoring in the final division in 2:05.4. Mike Stevenson, who recorded a driving double on the night, mapped out the one length victory for trainer-owner Bill Roloson of Belfast. BJ Comanche rallied back for second with Villager completing the triactor.
The evening feature went to Outside The Wire in 1:57.1. Driver Brodie MacPhee used rail control to his advantage putting the pacer on the point and cutting fractions of :28.4, :58.4 and 1:28.3. Tyber Champ was second with Keystone Nobility third. MacPhee did the driving for owners Andrew Avery, Freetown, PE and John Broderick, Manning, Alberta. Craig Avery conditions the five-year-old gelding.
Terry Gallant and Marc Campbell also recorded driving doubles on the evening.
The Governor’s Plate eliminations are scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. and Monday night at 7 p.m. at Red Shores Summerside.
