Red Shores’ Wednesday Preview

Officials with Red Shores have sent out the organization’s preview of its Wednesday card of racing at Summerside Raceway, which will feature three divisions of the Maple Leaf Trot Stakes.

Post time for the 13-dash program is 7 p.m. The card will feature three divisions of the Maple Leaf Trot Stakes, each sporting a purse of $4,300.

Saulsbrook Pippa, co-owned by trainer John Pineau, Hunter River and Myron Ford, Harrington, headlines the first split in Race 2 for driver Corey MacPherson. The three-year daughter of PJs Nabby will start from Post 5 in the six-horse field and is coming off a clean qualifying line where she won by two lengths in 2:02.2. She can expect pressure from Dusty Lane Galaxy (to be driven by Gary Chappell) and Southfield Shadow (Terry Gallant). The roster includes Lace (Brian Andrew), Dunmore Chance (Jack Panting), Glencove Yoshi (Mike Stevenson).

The second match-up has stakes star Phantom Beau (Kenny Arsenault) competing against Bo Digger (Mark McKinnon) and A C Image (Paul Morrison) for top honours. The field also includes Windmere Harrison (Marc Campbell), Ice Pop (Ronnie Gass) and Hope Chest (Walter Cheverie). Phantom Beau starts the 2014 campaign after compiling 10 top-three finishes from 12 starts last year and $20,448 in the bank for trainer John Pineau and owner Peter Breau, Moncton, NB.

The final Maple Leaf Trot has Lets Trade Ladies off the rail for owner-driver Garth Cole of Kensington. The trotter has four starts under her belt this season but is still searching for her first victory. She could get the win if she can outsprint morning line favourite Villager (Brian MacPhee) from Post 6. The other morning line favourite is Oceanview Rose from the Bill Roloson stable of Belfast. The line up also includes Arizona Ray (Ron Gass), PlayDale (Danny MacDonald), BJ Commanche (Kenny Arsenault) and JK Hustler (Walter Cheverie).

The evening’s top event has Lucky Encounter, owned by Jeff Ferrish, Summerside, established as the 5-2 morning line favourite for driver Walter Cheverie and trainer Dale Sobey. The fast class has Outside The Wire, Keystone Nobility, Pictonian Press, Windemere Eric, Lisfinny, Shipps Xcalibur and Carrera Angel.
