Camille Romps In Philly Distaff Pace
Ontario-sired pacing mare Camille dominated a field of top distaffers in the $30,000 Winners Over Handicap Pace on Friday afternoon at Harrah's Philadelphia, winning by nine lengths over Fast And Fiesty and Roses Are Red champion Anndrovette.
Driven by Yannick Gingras for trainer Ron Burke, post five starter Camille took the lead from eventual runner-up Fast And Fiesty (David Miller) after the :27.1 opening quarter. She raced to the half in :54.4 and three-quarters in 1:22.1 before leaving her competition in the dust as she a closed out her 1:49.3 season's-best mile with a :27.2 final frame. Camille paid $4.60 to win as the second choice in the wagering. The race favourite after her stakes win at Mohawk Racetrack on June 14, Anndrovette (Tim Tetrick) advanced first over from post eight and was just edged out in a photo for place.
The victory was Camille's 30th lifetime and leaves her just shy of $1.1 million in purse earnings.
The Camluck-Art Of Design mare, who earned back-to-back wins at Scioto Downs in May, is now three-for-13 this season with over $85,000 banked so far in her six-year-old campaign.
She is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, M1 Stable LLC and Jack B. Piatt III.
