Balmoral Cancels After Storm
After heavy rain and lightning rolled through the area shortly before post time Saturday’s 13-race card at Balmoral Park was forced to be cancelled after the nasty storms caused unsafe racing conditions at the Crete oval.
“Despite the fact that the storms eased up around 8:00 p.m., the resulting “washouts” from the torrential rains and continued lightning strikes made the surface unsafe for racing,” explained General Manager Mike Belmonte .
The plant remained opened for simulcast wagering throughout the remainder of Saturday night and rain checks were issued for any live racing programs that fans had purchased. There was no word on a possible “make-up” date for the Sue Fee Stake for ICF pacing mares that had been scheduled as the Saturday headliner.
Live racing will resume on Sunday, June 22nd. Post time for the 10-race card, which features a $25,000 guaranteed Pick 4 will be at 7:10 p.m.
