Bee A Magician To Face The Boys
Not only is Bee A Magician's trainer not concerned with her performance in the 2014 Armbro Flight last Saturday, he's planning on racing her next -- for the first time -- against male counterparts.
Last Saturday at Mohawk, Bee A Magician finished ninth after a pocket trip in the Armbro Flight Stakes. It was a performance that left many asking questions. After all, the only other time that she had missed the board in her career was in her second lifetime start at two.
Trainer Richard 'Nifty' Norman told Trot Insider that 2013's Horse of the Year did in fact scope sick after Saturday's race. Norman then went on to say that on Wednesday she was "feeling better already."
Bee A Magician has now lost her first three starts of the 2014 season after never tasting defeat at three in 17 starts. Trained by Norman for owners Mel Hartman of Ottawa, Ont., Herb Liverman and David McDuffee of Florida, Bee A Magician had won 27 of 30 starts over her first two seasons with earnings in excess of $2.3 million.
She'll get a bit of time off before her next scheduled start. Norman told Trot Insider that Bee A Magician will race next on July 5 in the $400,000 Hambletonian Futurity for four-year-olds at The Meadowlands. That race is open to all four-year-old trotters, and it means she'll skip the second leg of the Miss Versatility for trotting mares on Monday, June 30 at Mohawk.
