Rider’s 16,000-KM Horseback Journey

Most equine enthusiasts enjoy long rides on horseback, but when your journey starts in Canada and ends in Brazil that is different type of ride altogether.

An article by the CBC explains that 27-year-old Ryerson graduate Filipe Masetti Leite began his journey in July of 2012 when he departed from the Calgary Stampede grounds.

He recently arrived in Corumba, Brazil via Bolivia and told the CBC, via email, "I feel like I'm dreaming."

The 16,000-kilometre trip saw Leite pass through 10 countries and encounter a Grizzly Bear along the way. He started his trip with two horses – named ‘Bruiser’ and ‘Frenchie’ – and picked up a third horse – named ‘Dude’ – while in New Mexico.

The report states that Leite still has 2,000 kilometres to go until he reaches his hometown of Sao Paulo.

The article concludes by explaining that Leite wanted to complete his journey while the 2014 World Cup was underway in Brazil.
