Junebugs Baby Wins Season Debut
Junebugs Baby picked up where he left off last year, winning in his 2014 debut in the top pacing class at Northside Downs on Saturday afternoon.
Sent postward as the co-favourite with Greg Sparling driving, Junebugs Baby ($5.30) rallied wide from the backfield and sprinted the fastest final quarter of the day in :28.4 to take the $1,100 Winners Over Pace in 2:01.2. Silver Dragon and Lils Destiny, both suffering broken equipment, finished one and three-quarter lengths behind in second and third.
Junebugs Baby has won 22 of his 43 starts while banking $72,134. He earned seven of his wins and $12,196 in purses last year with multiple Inverness Invitational victories. He was also victorious in his last race of the year on Nov. 17 in the top class at Truro Raceway.
Breeder and trainer Fraser Turnbull shares ownership of the five-year-old Western Paradise pacer with John Turnbull Jr.
Earlier in the day, George Della Valle opened the card with his first training win as Radioactive Terror drew off to a six length score in 2:02.4 with John Beaton aboard. The win was the first for the homebred Aahm Canadian Now sophomore gelding, following up a pair of close runner-up efforts.
