‘Rapid’ Lowers Record At Hippodrome 3R
A seven-year-old track record was erased Tuesday at Hippodrome 3R when Whitewater Rapids romped to an easy victory in a $5,200 conditioned event for trotters.
Whitewater Rapids got away sixth and watched Easy Virtue and Prairie Big John take turns on the lead through fractions of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:27.3 before rushing to the front and drawing clear to win by 6-3/4 lengths in 1:57.1 for trainer/driver Guy Gagnon. Ghirardelli Lindy was a distant second, with Beer Maggs rounding out the top three.
The former mark of 1:58.3 for older trotting horses was set by Jason Will on September 5, 2006.
Ecuries Guy Gagnon owns the six-year-old son of Credit Winner-Rapid Rail, who improved this year’s record to 4-5-0 from just 15 trips to the track. The 11-time winner lifted his lifetime earnings to $240,493 with the win.
