Nine Straight For I Like My Boss
I Like My Boss remained unbeaten in nine starts thanks to Tuesday’s 1:58.2 triumph at Harrington Raceway.
The Don Boss Vita three-year-old, in rein to Jon Roberts, made his final prep before the upcoming Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund stakes as the overwhelming favourite at odds of 1-9 from Post 7. The Bob Shahan-trainee mounted his attack first-over on Call Me Hal approaching three-quarters. I Like My Boss appeared to be losing ground on the final turn when Roberts guided him bravely to the inside to trot by the game leader just before the finish.
Owned by Shahan, Jimmy Parsons and Ashley Parsons, I Like My Boss improved to 9-for-9 in his career. He paid $2.10.
Driver Victor Kirby won five races on the program. Allan Davis and Jim Morand each had three winners.
Delaware driving legend Eddie Davis, who has won over 8,600 races in his career, reached the winner’s circle in the eighth race with a horse he co-owns in Bad Break ($53.20). The elder Davis, whose son Allan is the current leading driver at Harrington, had taken several years off from driving but now drives sparingly on horses in his stable.
