Rogers Rebounds With Driving Double
After taking a tumble in an accident early on the Sunday harness racing card at Red Shores Summerside, a resilient Norris Rogers climbed back in the sulky and went on to win a pair of races, including the afternoon's feature event.
A scary moment occurred in race two when Sendmeasign made a break and fell from third into the stretch. Rogers was thrown to the track and hit by a trailing horse. However, Rogers wasn’t seriously injured in the accident and Sendmeasign walked back to her stable. Time To Get Jiggy (Gary Chappell) and Rock R Us (Marc Campbell) were also involved with no injuries being reported.
Rogers rebounded from the spill later winning the fifth race with the front-stepping Lisfinny in 1:58.3 for owners Jean and Jay Noye of Pleasant Valley, P.E.I.
Lucky Encounter won the 11th race feature in 1:57.4. Rogers mapped out the winning trip, which included a three-wide charge down the backstretch. Outside The Wire (Jason Hughes) was second with Ultimate Luck (Stephen Trites) completing the triactor. Lucky Encounter is trained by Dale Sobey for local owner Jeff Ferrish.
Marc Campbell had a hat-trick on the afternoon scoring with Ramadawn for trainer Philip Desroches of Coleman, P.E.I., Kaitlyn Rose from the Ralph Sweet stable of O’Leary, P.E.I., and R Es Nancy, trained by Dana Sweet of Bloomfield Station, P.E.I.
Gilles Barrieau, Jason Hughes, and Rocky Schurman joined Norris with driving doubles on the program.
