Veleta Ibey Passes

Long-time industry participant Veleta Ibey of Campbellford, Ont. passed away on Sunday, June 1 in her 89th year.

She was predeceased by her husband, long-time CTA/ORC judge Charlie Ibey and daughter Shirley McBain. Survived by son Charles (Chuck) Ibey and his wife Peggy. Also survived by grandchildren, Kelly McBain, Drew McBain, Charles D. Ibey, owner/driver Lee Ibey and Lindsay Ibey.

Veleta's father Howard McQuigge and brother Calvin McQuigge were also lifelong horsemen.

Veleta often accompanied Charlie to the various tracks he worked and followed the race horses of her son Chuck and grandson Lee with keen interest. She also led a group of seniors at the Campbellford Multi-Care Lodge in writing letters protesting the cancellation of the Slots At Racetrack program.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 13 at 2 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Campbellford, Ont. Online condolences can be made through weaverfuneralhomes.com.
