Double Header Saturday At Pocono
It’s been 36 years since thoroughbred racing has seen a Triple Crown winner, and this year, the hope is alive with a horse named California Chrome. The Art Sherman-trained colt has been training superbly at Belmont Park, and drew post position two in a field of 11 headed to the gate on Saturday.
Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs is planning a day-long event for fans to not only watch the third jewel of the Triple Crown, but to enjoy the exciting live harness racing as well. Adding an additional live racing card, the first post time will be 11 a.m. with a 10-race card. Fans may arrive as the doors open at 9:30 a.m., and the track offers free parking and free admission.
The first 100 fans in line at 10:30 a.m. can purchase $100 worth of live racing vouchers for $50 -- half can be redeemed on the early live card and half on the night card.
Out on the track apron, there will be live entertainment with Light Weight from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the Trackside Concession Stands, patio bars, and tent will all be selling the Belmont Breeze and other beverages starting at 2 p.m. Johnny Rockets also will be on hand, grilling hamburgers and hot dogs starting at 2 p.m. Pacers Clubhouse opens at 2 p.m. by reservation only and is sold out.
Special California Chrome and Belmont Stakes merchandise will be for sale on the track apron. The colours of purple and green will be everywhere!
Post time for the second live racing card will be 7:15 p.m. and there are 15 races on the card, including a $25,000 Preferred Handicap Pace with the star power of Golden Receiver, Aracache Hanover and P H Supercam.
Advance wagering on Belmont begins Friday, June 6 at 12 noon.
