According to a report by The Detroit News, a federal judge recently threw out a lawsuit by Michigan horse racing interests. The suit had alleged that the state law is unfairly biased over Michigan racetracks in favour of casinos.

Targeted in the lawsuit was an amendment to Michigan's Constitution passed as a result of a 2004 ballot initiative, which was largely financed by the state's casinos. The provision requires both a statewide and a local referendum before any new gambling can occur. Exempted from the provision are the casinos.
