Camille Equals Scioto Track Record
Ontario-sired Camille tied the track record for aged pacing mares at Scioto Downs on Friday night with a dazzling 1:50.4 victory in the Mares Open Pace.
Camille, driven by Chris Page and trained by Ron Burke, she scored at odds of 7-5.
The six-year-old Camluck-Art Of Design mare worked hard for the lead, leaving from post seven, after a scratch. Camille and Page set hot fractions of :26.2, :54.3 and 1:22.3 en route to the length and a quarter victory over Shes Shocking and Y Mach Me.
The millionairess was bred by Larry Pollard of Harrow, Ont. and is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, M1 Stable and Jack Piatt III.
She has now won back-to-back races at Scioto, including the Laverne Hill Memorial two weeks ago, to push her career win total to 29.
Another Burke trainee, Run And Tell Pap prevailed in the Open Trot after getting a perfect pocket trip to post time favourite Final Breath.
Run And Tell Pap is a seven-year-old gelding by High Falls out of Adeles Jade, who is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and M1 Stable.
Page had the assignment from post nine. He pressed hard for the front to an opening quarter in :27.3, before releasing Final Breath and taking the two-hole trip. Page waited patiently for the super stretch and Run And Tell Pap responded, crossing the wire in a season's best 1:54.2. Completing the exotics were Final Breath and Boy Meets Girl K.
Easy Strength, driven by Jim Pantaleano for trainer Gilbert Travis Jr. and owner Karen Travis, also paid double digits winning the Mares Open Trot from post five.
The five-year-old mare by Royal Strength out of Easy Lover left hard, clearing to the top before the quarter and catching an easy half for this bunch in :57.4. Pantaleano and East Strength glided to victory in 1:55.3. Facial Expressions was second and Final Justice grabbed the show spot. These three magnificent mares pulled off a $3,384 trifecta pay off.
