Red Shores’ Weekend Preview
Officials with Red Shores have sent out a preview of its upcoming weekend programs of racing at the Charlottetown Driving Park and Summerside Raceway.
One of the top harness racing performers of 2013 is back on the track Saturday in the feature event at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
All Turain, a five-year-old pacing superstar from the stable of Lee and Trevor Hicken, will make his 2014 debut in the 12th race top class for driver Brodie MacPhee.
The son of Tell All-Tura Hanover is coming off a 1:57.4 qualifier last Saturday. His chart lines include a 1:52.2 romp in the Island Pacing Championship series last October, where he defeated his rivals by a stunning 16 lengths. His resume outlines three trips in 1:55.2 when he toured the ovals at Northside Downs, Truro Raceway and the CDP. His summary includes eight wins from 21 starts with one second and five thirds. All Turain will start from Post 5 and will take on Premier’s Pace winner Touch of Lightning, who is owned by Peter and Don Smith, Gerald Morrissey and Larry Chappell. Earl Smith will do the driving on the lifetime winner of $125,898.
The $2,200 event also includes Sterling Seelster (to be driven by Marc Campbell), Nobestbfor (Walter Cheverie), Tempo Seelster (Vince Poulton) Machinthesand (Jason Hughes) and newcomer Perfect Escape (Ron Matheson).
In other action, The Foxyhall stable of Summerside has added another contender to their line-up with the purchase of Say It Again Sam who comes in from Mohawk Racetrack in Ontario. The pacer will make his Island debut in Race 4 for Jason Hughes. Trainer Jamie Smith sends out Rosa Santanna in Race 10 riding a two-race win streak for the Spud Island stable of Charlottetown, while Honeymoonisover is the morning line favourite in the evening’s trot class for driver Brian Andrew and his son, Blake. The Andrew family will introduce Presto Pegasus to the trotting ranks from Post 2, while their mare Buckling Banbury also has a shot at the top three. It could be an Andrew triactor sweep in Race 3.

The open trotters will invade Red Shores’ Summerside during a 12-race Sunday program. The first race will be called to the starter at 1 p.m.
Abundaspin, with Harold Shepherd in the bike, will put his winning streak on the line in Race 3 against a power-packed line-up which includes three Ron Gass trainees (Caliban Hanover, Neal and Pleasure Girls). Gass will drive Neal from Post 4 who delivered an impressive score in his last start for owner Bill Andrew of Calgary, Alberta. The Andrew stable also has rail-sitter Lyrical Lindy and driver Gilles Barrieau in the event. Corey MacPherson will catch drive Caliban Hanover with Walter Cheverie listed on 4-1 shot Pleasure Girls.
Cheverie has another live drive aboard Bet The House in the afternoon feature. The Summerside fan favourite, trained by Blaine McKenna, opened the Summerside campaign with a 1:58 victory for Gilles Barrieau. Barrieau is committed to Tobins Fusion off the rail. The field includes Lucky Encounter (Alex Sobey), Onehotvett (Wade Sorrie), SA Summers Luck (Corey MacPherson) and Toad River (Ken Murphy).
