New KHRC Medication Rules Near

Changes to regulatory thresholds and withdrawal guidelines for 24 regulated therapeutic medications are set to begin June 6 in Kentucky.

Existing Kentucky Horse Racing Commission withdrawal guidance for therapeutic medications other than the 24 addressed in the regulation will remain unchanged.

The KHRC submitted the new regulations for review and comment earlier this year and has received approval from a legislative regulatory oversight committee to begin the new procedures.

“These new rules have been developed in an effort to bring about more uniformity across all racing jurisdictions in the United States,” KHRC Equine Medical Director Dr. Mary Scollay has been quoted as saying.

Specific information, including a comparison of the new regulations to those currently in effect, may be found on the KHRC website.

Individuals with questions or requiring more information may contact Dr. Scollay at [email protected] or 859-246-2040.
