Victoria Day Pace To Bet The House
Bet The House and driver Gilles Barrieau captured Monday’s Victoria Day Pace during opening day action at Red Shores Summerside.
Bet The House stalked leader Bunny Mach through splits of :28.3, :57.4 and 1:28 before overpowering the pacesetter through to the stretch to stop the timer in 1:58. Bunny Mach held on for second while Carnivore finished third.
Bet The House is co-owned by Gary Arsenault and Blaine McKenna, who had a training double on the day.
Lets Make Ideal made it three straight wins thanks to a dazzling 1:57.3 mile in the afternoon’s fifth race. Dale Spence did the driving for owner Mikeala Lustic and trainer Jonah Moase. That clocking was the fastest mile of the day and was equaled by Painted Pony for trainer Raymond White and driver Marc Campbell.
The season opener went to Tobins Knockout for driver Walter Cheverie, trainer Frank Hansen and owners Malcolm Williams and Alan Williams. The five-year-old mare tracked down fraction setter Kaitlyn Rose for the 2:00.1 victory.
Cheverie, Campbell, Barrieau and Corey Macpherson recorded driving doubles on the card.
The owner-trainer team of Casey Gavin and Thane Mann kicked off the new season with two scores with Silverhill Lucky and Silverhill Gertie.
Racing returns Sunday. Post time is 1 p.m.
