Blue Star Beauty Repeats In Mares Open
Blue Star Beauty delivered another wire-to-wire winning effort over Doober Hoozzitz and Feelin Flush in the Fillies & Mares Open Handicap Pace on Saturday afternoon at Alberta Downs.
The dust was flying as defending class champion Blue Star Beauty sprinted off the gate from post five to set up a game of "catch-me-if-you-can" in the ninth race feature. She fired off a :28.4 opening panel over the "good" track and maintained a two-length lead through middle splits of :58.2 and 1:26.3. The 4-5 favourite managed to keep her distance from her five foes through the stretch as she cruised to the wire for her second straight victory in 1:55.4.
Finishing second and third once again, Doober Hoozzitz rallied home from second over with Feelin Flush coming on from the back of the pack. Pocket-sitter American Passion finished fourth as the longest shot on the board while the season-debuting Alberta Sires Stakes champion, Crackers Hot Shot, faded to fifth after moving first up from third around the final bend.
Keith Clark drove the winning As Promised mare for trainer Doug and owner Derek Stout.
Blue Star Beauty is now two-for-nine in her five-year-old campaign and has made 21 trips to the winner's circle lifetime. The lion's share of the $8,400 purse bumped her career bankroll to $257,651.
