Carol Alice Wins Opening Day Feature
Northside Downs' 2014 harness racing season began on Saturday afternoon with Maritime stakes winner Carol Alice victorious in her four-year-old debut.
Driven by Gerald Snow for trainer/owner Doug Rankin, Carol Alice won the $1,100 top class in 2:00.1 by two and a half lengths over the only other mare in the field, Waterside Lucky. Hoosier King edged out Ankaway for third more than four lengths behind.
John Gerard Kennedy ended up with the most victories on the eight-race opening day card. He swept the early Daily Double with open-length winners My Tie Wine for trainer Tim Gillis and the Heather Hawkins-trained Fleetwood Cam. Kennedy later won the fifth race as well with Giselles Big B to give Gillis a perfect two-for-two record to start the meet.
