D Gs Pesquero Wins F&M Preferred
The betting public was enamoured with Voelz Hanover in Friday’s $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred at Woodbine Racetrack, but she failed to seal the deal after dictating the terms of the tempo.
D Gs Pesquero and driver Sylvain Filion turned a two-hole trip into a 7-2 mini upset in the featured tilt for distaffers.
Voelz Hanover, who was sent off as the 1-5 favourite, shot to the top of carved out sensible panels of :27, :56.3 and 1:25.1 before going into sprint mode coming out of the final turn. Filion, who was tracking in the pocket, angled out with D Gs Pesquero and the Richard Moreau pupil fired out a final quarter of :27.2 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Voelz Hanover in 1:53. Third prize went to a rallying Waasmula.
D Gs Pesquero, a four-year-old daughter of Mach Three-DG s El Nina, improved this year’s record to 3-9-2 from 19 trips to the track with the win. The career winner of $154,997 is owned by 1844536 Ontario Ltd of Cambridge, Ontario.
