Ugly Betty Steals The Spotlight At Buffalo
It's been since March 5 when Ontario-sired Ugly Betty last paid a visit to the winner's circle at Buffalo Raceway. While knocking on the door, she's been just missing attending the photo shoot.
But Ugly Betty turned in a 'beauty' of a race on Wednesday night in the featured $10,500 Fillies and Mares Open Pace and got to strike a winning pose once again.
Turning in a seasonal-best time of 1:56 over a 'good' track, Ugly Betty easily topped Youre Too Funny by 1-3/4 lengths in scoring her fourth win in 13 appearances in 2014.
After playing 'give-and-go' with Youre Too Funny, Ugly Betty set the tempo with fractions of :28.3, :58 and 1:27.1. It was then a three-horse break away by the time the field of seven hit the three-quarter marker. In the stretch, Ugly Betty ($3.80) was never in trouble as driver Jack Flanigen kept the six-year-old mare on task and cruised to the line. Youre Too Funny (Kevin Cummings) held on for second while Majic Laughter (Jim McNeight) took the show spot as the pair came up empty down the lane.
Owned by Margaret Payne and Jennifer Falcone, Ugly Betty (Camluck-Red Road Rage) has now amassed $28,683 in earnings this season and $138,944 lifetime. Dennis Dylo handles the training duties.
Racing will continue at Buffalo Raceway on Friday night when a 13-race card is scheduled to begin at 6:40 p.m.
