Daylon Miracle Sets Meadows Record
Foiled in her bid for the early lead, Ontario-sired Daylon Miracle unleashed her frustration on the rest of the field, capturing Wednesday’s $20,000 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap in 1:52.4, fastest ever by an older trotting mare at The Meadows.
Daylon Miracle hustled out of post six for the lead, but was denied by Magic Wheel and had to find a seat fourth. When Aaron Merriman sent her first over down the backside, the five-year-old daughter of Pegasus Spur-Daylon Marvel quickly disposed of Magic Wheel — and everyone else. Mistress Valentine was second, a length back, with Vixy third.
The time knocked a tick off the old mark of Unefoisdansmavie, who finished fifth to Daylon Miracle in Wednesday’s race. Bill Bercury owns and trains Daylon Miracle, who now boasts career earnings of $341,249.
In Wednesday’s companion feature, the $18,000 Preferred Handicap Trot, Count Me In sat comfortably in the pocket for Mike Wilder, then shot the Lightning Lane to defeat Major Athens by a neck in 1:53.3. Trustworthy Kid earned show.
Marty Wollam conditions the five-year-old Full Count-Howl gelding, who extended his lifetime bankroll to $275,691, and owns with Acadia Farms.
Wilder drove five winners on the 14-race card, giving him 10 over the past two programs.
