Training Schedule Heats Up At Charlottetown
Over 150 horses will be on the racetrack Saturday at the Charlottetown Driving Park prepping for the new season. Fans are invited to a special steak and eggs breakfast in the Top of the Park from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for $5.95 plus taxes.
Owners, trainers and drivers are preparing for a busy 2009 season with 81 live racing presentations planned for Charlottetown with new racing events, including the Buddy Campbell Memorial for two-year-old trotters presented by Meridian Farms, special race nights honouring the Canada Games and the 50th running of the Gold Cup & Saucer on August 22, 2009.
The countdown to the cup will begin on opening day April 25. First race post time is 1:00 p.m. Harness Racing PEI will be releasing promotional and event details in the coming weeks.
Atlantic Sires Stakes colts and fillies will continue their quest for glory throughout the spring and summer months and into the fall. The ultimate goal will be to earn a position in the season-ending Atlantic Breeders Crown championships, which will return to the Charlottetown Driving Park on Thanksgiving weekend.
Atlantic Sires Stakes action will take place at eight racetracks throughout New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island during the 2009 season. This year's calendar includes a visit to Connell Park in Woodstock, New Brunswick by two and three-year-old trotters. Other New Brunswick events will take place in Fredericton and Saint John.
