More On Truro Strangles
The Chronicle Herald has today ran a story about the quarantined strangles case at Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia. The article quotes Dr. Paul Hogan, head of the Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission, Bob Taylor, general manager of the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition, and an unnamed horse owner.
The story offers some of the background on the situation.
"Based on all the information, it was decided that the best course of action was to quarantine two barns that had a connection with the sick horse," said Dr. Hogan.
The unnamed owner said that he/she believes that, "we could keep going through this (strangles outbreaks) over and over again."
"What we’re doing is when people call to register their horses, we tell them about the strangles," Taylor was quoted as saying. "It’s entirely left to their discretion."
