RCR Card Could Hold Surprises
Frequent Flyer will make her first start for owner/trainer/driver Guy Gagnon in Rideau Carleton Raceway’s first race on Sunday, which is for $6,500 claiming filly and mare pacers.
Gagnon obtained the six-year-old daughter of Cams Card Shark via a claim on May 7 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Gagnon, a Gatineau horseman, has had success with first-time-off-the-claim starters, having scored wins with both Cheryls Surprise and Whitewater Rapids earlier this season.
Frequent Flyer displayed tactical versatility over the tight oval at the WFD, and that ability should come in handy against a field of early sprinters such as Sestina and Part Time Lady.
Fireworks in Fifth
Rideau's fifth race dash for NW $1055 Last 3 starts features a very deep field of pacers. It also marks the return of the gritty Ideal Jin.
The Phil Doyle-owned and trained gelding will make his season’s debut off a sparkling qualifier in which he won in 1:59 off a noteworthy final quarter of :28.2
The eight-year-old son of Western Ideal entered the Doyle Barn late in 2011 and has since racked up 10 of his 23 lifetime wins.
The hard-knocking pacer will face some serious competitors, including Rockin Rambaran – who finally gets some post relief – Miss Dollar Mam and Lucky Journal.
