Button Up Wires Up Preferred Foes
Team Horner clicked to win Wednesday’s $7,000 Preferred 3 for pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District with a veteran who knows the London oval like the back of his hand.
Button Up ripped through fractions of :28.1, :59.1 and 1:28.2 before using a :29.1 kicker to win by three-quarters of a length over Lawmen Reign in 1:57.3. Major Wager tagged along to finish third.
Mike Horner mapped out the winning trip for the Mark Horner-trained 11-year-old son of Northern Luck-Better Butter. Mark Horner holds the ownership on the 44-time winner who improved this year’s record to 2-3-2 from 15 starts. To date, the veteran has stashed away earnings in excess of $777,000.
Two races later Tornado Tim trounced the rivals he sparred with in the $7,350 Preferred 3 for trotters. Trainer/driver Danny O’Brien was parked to the half in :58.2 with the seven-year-old son of Revenue S-Cyclone Annie who eventually cleared and drew clear to win by 3-3/4 lengths over Winzel in 1:58.1. Taking home third prize was Excellence.
Everette Hanson of Maugerville, New Brunswick owns the gelding who won for the third time this season and for the 21st time in his career. To date, Tornado Tim has stashed away earnings of $177,923.
