General Brock Kicks Off Thursday
The trotters will take centre stage on Thursday, February 19 at Woodbine Racetrack, as four $20,000 opening leg divisions of the General Brock Trotting Series will go postward..
Andovers Son has been installed as the 5-2 morning line choice for the first split (Race 1, 7:30 p.m.). Sent out by trotting specialist Per Henriksen, Andovers Son was a $100,000 yearling purchase and has yet to make that price back, but he’s working on it. Andovers Son currently has two firsts and two seconds in five starts this year, good for close to $80,000 in earnings. He was a disappointing fifth in the Don Mills final on February 9, but may be primed to rebound.
Quebec import Rockin To Do is one of the more interesting individuals in the second of the four General Brock tilts. A gelded son of Glory B River, Rockin To Do now calls the shed row of trainer Joe Stutzman his home. The gelding has shown flashes of talent so far this year, missing the winner’s circle but adding a second and two third-place finishes to his resume. Rockin To Do will be leaving from Post 7 in Race 3 (8:08 p.m.), with Sylvain
Filion at the lines.
Then there’s Wildcat Shoes, who may be the one to watch in the third of the four splits (Race 4, 8:27 p.m.). Wildcat Shoes has been steadily improving since he returned from a five-month layoff in January. The Tony O’Sullivan trainee has been rated at 5-2 in the morning line.
In the final of the four divisions, distaff trotter Frenchfrysnvinegar will face the boys for trainer/co-owner Dave Smith of Rockwood, Ont. The daughter of Angus Hall was impressive in both the Ontario Sired Autumn Series in December, and the Lifetime Dream Trotting Series in January, posting a win and two seconds. The lass is fresh off a win in a $21,000 conditioned event on February 6, making her the 3-1 second choice on Thursday.
