Hat Trick For Just A Jolt
John Dayton’s Just A Jolt notched his third consecutive win Monday at Harrington Raceway with a 1:52.4 triumph in the $17,000 Open.
The four-year-old Village Jolt gelding improved to 2-for-2 in 2014 at Harrington, after besting a high-level conditioned group on April 21 in 1:51.3. Trained by Jim King Jr. and driven by Victor Kirby, Just A Jolt sat in the pocket throughout behind pacesetting favourite Lollipop Kid who strolled through fractions of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:25.3 over the sloppy racetrack. Just A Jolt gathered momentum in mid stretch and surged by to prevail by a narrow margin.
He paid $6.60.
Two equine elder statesmen among the local racing colony prevailed later in the card. Art Brewer II’s Sharky Osborne ($9.60) earned his 59th career with a 1:57.3 triumph. The Cams Card Shark gelding is closing in on $900,000 in career earnings.
Meanwhile, 14-year-old Make It Brief ($3.20), also owned by Brewer II, recorded a 1:56.1 victory. The Camluck stallion earned his 45th career win and went over the $875,000 mark in lifetime earnings. Both horses are trained by Kathleen Brewer.
Driver Jim Morand inched closer to the 9,000 win club with two winners on the program to give him 8,973 lifetime. Ross Wolfenden, Allan Davis and Eric Goodell also had driving doubles.
