Manitoba, MJC Reach 12-Year VLT Deal

It has been reported that the Province of Manitoba and the Manitoba Jockey Club have reached a 12-year VLT agreement which will ensure live Thoroughbred racing at Assiniboia Downs will continue. The agreement will see all current litigation by the MJC against the province cease.

The news comes courtesy of a report by the Winnipeg Free Press that explains that the deal will see the MJC’s percentage of VLT revenue decrease over the course of the agreement.

Assiniboia Downs CEO Darren Dunn offered a prepared statement to the Winnipeg Free Press, part of which states, “With today’s agreement, the government is providing a bridge to MJC that intends to get it into a position where it will be able to enjoy the benefits of those enhanced revenue streams while maintaining sustainability for horse racing in the interim.”
