Machness Upsets In Preferred
Bruce Richardson rushed Machness to the lead at the mid-way point of Monday’s $7,350 Preferred 3 for pacers, and the Greg Campbell pupil never looked back en route to posting a comfortable victory.
Machness sat third to the quarter pole before tipping and driving to the top shortly past the half. A :28.4 closing quarter helped him score by 1-3/4 lengths over race favourite Hoboken Hanover in 1:55. Button Up tagged along to finish third.
Sent off at odds of 7-1, Machness broke into the win column for the fourth time this season while his lifetime total climbed to 23. His earnings are just shy of $170,000 to date.
One race earlier in the $7,000 Preferred 3 for trotters, Pricevalleyrevitup was a popular winner for the tandem of driver Trevor Henry and trainer Randy Marriage.
Henry hustled the eight-year-old son of Revenue S-Shattered to the front and the gelding never looked back from that point on. He sliced out splits of :29.2, 1:00.2 and 1:30.1 before using a :29.1 closing quarter to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Thunderaway in 1:59.2. Just One Day took home third prize.
Jeffrey Peake of Ballinafad, Ontario owns the veteran who won for the first time this season. The 37-time lifted his lifetime loot to $404,828 with the win.
