Clarence Jacobs Passes

Clarence M. ‘Jake’ Jacobs, 88, of Harvard, Ill., passed away on April 8 at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle, Ill.

Jacobs was born Aug. 5, 1925, to Herbert and Clara Krone Jacobs in Capron, Ill. He enlisted in the Army in 1947 and served in the Korean War. He was discharged as a sergeant in 1952. He married Phyllis M. Donahue on June 28, 1952, in Palatine, Ill.

He attended school in Harvard, Ill. He was a confirmed member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Harvard on April 2, 1939. He was also a member of the moose lodge.

Jacobs hauled milk and trucked cattle from 1951 to 1956. He then became a dairy farmer until 1972 when he went into the Standardbred business, where he raised, trained and drove his own horses until a few years ago.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Randy (Joni), Dale (Roger) Blazier, Penny (Dan) Berry, Susan and Peggy (Bruce) Garey; grandchildren, Patrick (Traci) Berry, Megan Berry, Timothy Blazier, Jason (Nina) Blazier, Ashley (Matt) Schultz, Jamie (Brit) Hitchins, Kyle Cairns, Joshlyn (Charles) Duranona, Brittney Mathis, Erin, Chad Garey and Matt Reed; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Hale; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lyle, Herbert and Lester; sisters, Lucille Bonivia, Betty Straley and Dorothy Francis; granddaughter, Monique Mathis; and grandson, Chet Garey.

A memorial gathering will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday (April 16) and a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 504 Diggins St., Harvard, IL 60033. The Rev. Herb Priester will officiate. Interment will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery after the service.
