Mickey Rooney Passes

The world lost an entertainment icon on Sunday (April 6) when it was learned that Mickey Rooney, who first started acting at 17 months of age, passed away at his California home at age 93. What many don’t know is that the horse racing world also lost an owner.

A report by the CBC states that Rooney was surrounded by his family when he passed away at his North Hollywood home.

A brief article by Fred Hudson on ustrotting.com states that, at one time, Rooney was the owner of Mr AAA, a Bobby Hiel-trained horse that raced at Roosevelt and Yonkers Raceway.

The report also states that it was not uncommon to see Rooney at Roosevelt, Yonkers and the Meadowlands in the mid to late 1970s

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Mickey Rooney.
