Paralyzed Horseman Still Jogs

There is absolutely no denying Jerome Bouvier’s love for harness racing. The 55-year-old has shown that being paralyzed isn’t enough to keep him off the track.
Tom Wolski’s most recent ‘Hoss Talk’ column in The Province sheds light on Bouvier, a former driver that was paralyzed at age 24 after being involved in a waterskiing accident.
The article explains that Bouvier recently purchased a horse and has been able to train the charge because his brother, Andre, constructed a special sulky for him.
The brothers bought the race bike and incorporated a seat from a riding lawnmower into the mix. As Wolski explains, the seat is light and features a high back, which is key for stronger support. The brothers built a bracket to mount the seat to the race bike. The setup allows Jerome to slide into the sulky, which features a harness that secures him into seat for safety.
“I was determined to get that feeling back of being behind a horse again,” Jerome was quoted as saying.
