Another Preferred Win For 'Ovation'
Overcoming an assigned outside post position, trotting mare Thundering Ovation made quick work of getting to the front and never looked back to earn her fourth straight Preferred victory for trainer Gerald Sloan on Wednesday night at Western Fair Raceway.
Leaving from post seven in the evening's featured $11,000 Preferred 2 Handicap, Thundering Ovation kept her rivals at bay as she carved out fractions of :28.3, :59.4 and 1:28.3 en route to a 1:58.4 triumph with Phil Hudon in the sulky. The homebred Thunder Road mare held off the pocket-pulling Cimeronken in the stretch by a quarter-length. Heres The Magic finished third.
The five-year-old mare is owned by Joanne and Courtney Sloan of Harley, Ont. She now has six wins in 11 starts this year with over $36,000 in purse earnings.
Sent postward as the slight second choice, Thundering Ovation paid $5.60 to win.
