The 50-cent Pick 5 at Yonkers Raceway paid a record $16,228 Tuesday night as two winning 50-cent tickets were sold.

The five-figure jackpot easily eclipsed previous records. The high payout this year was $9,826 on February 4. The all-time record had been $12,063 on August 24, 2013.

A carryover of nearly $8,000 heading into the evening produced an additional $32,731 of new wagers. That amount was also a record for a one-day carryover, surpassing the $28,609 that was handled on August 6, 2013.

The Pick 5 is a 50-cent wager that debuted at Yonkers in June 2013. It covers races five through nine every racing night and carries a $10,000 guaranteed pool on Mondays and Tuesdays.
